A Creative Light has gone out

Josh Fonner was the most polarizing person I ever knew. I’ve known Josh for years and in that time we’d done hundreds of podcasts together. I can firmly say he was like family to me. I say that because like any brothers, we fought. We fought a lot. He was so annoying sometimes. He refused to back down from anything. I’ve never met a person so hell bent on being right about stuff even when he was wrong.

Josh and I were currently in one of our “off” times. We’d disagreed on some things and as usual, we argued or just didn’t talk to one another as often. It as always would have been patched up soon. We had reached a couple month marker and usually one of us would reach out and talk about something we both loved like horror movies, comics, or music.

He was my friend. He was my brother. We fought, we disagreed, we didn’t always see eye-to-eye. However, we always had each other’s backs. Josh would come to my rescue anytime someone would say a bad word about me on the internet. If someone ran me down on some comic forum, he’d not only know about like some internet scanning cerebro, He’d come rushing in to defend me like the fat Joker meme he was so proud of and known for.

We were called “Fat man and Little Boy” by one of our many detractors and we loved that. We used it constantly at the idea that we were compared to nuclear bombs. Josh was a real nuclear bomb. He’d drop in, cause chaos, leave an impression and make you feel that impact. Yeah, he had his enemies. He had his haters. He had his internet flame wars. However, Josh was a good guy. He cared about people, he had plenty of friends, a girlfriend he loved and my God did he take podcasting seriously.

I loved Josh. I’m sorry I didn’t get to say that too him. That I let some stupid podcast be the reason I was mad at him recently. This is a lesson, life is not promised. It truly is a sacred string waiting to be cut. Josh was always a good friend to me. If I needed him, he’d always answer the call.

I’m gonna miss Josh Fonner. I’m gonna miss my friend.
