Vice-President of Sales David Gabriel said the following over the week end:
“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not. I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales. “
“We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against. That was difficult for us because we had a lot of fresh, new, exciting ideas that we were trying to get out and nothing new really worked.”
Ok so the Argument their making is they forced Diversity down their fans throats and it did not work. It is Funny that no one at Marvel sees what they are missing. So Marvel as a Fan of yours for 30 years and with love I say the Following:
STOP WORRYING ABOUT SALES, INSTEAD WORRY ABOUT STORY TELLING
Marvel you know I will always love you baby, but your trying way to hard to seem cool. Your missing it, people do want diversity just not PC sales hooks diversity. TO Be clear stop fucking remaking people to make it seem like your diverse. Instead start looking beyond MARVEL and into the INDIE COMIC BOOK CREATIVE market and start hiring Creators Like VICTOR DANDRIDGE JR, RAYMOND FIELDS, KASEY PIERCE, Marcel Dupree, Jessica DeWitt, SATINE ZILLAH, Nathan Kelly and JERRY GAYLORD to name a few. These Creators will create stories for you that will naturally be diverse. Shocker I know. Hire people who are already creating Diverse Comic books. MAYBE CREATE a NEW LINE of COMICS that address DIVERSITY in creation via new Characters in a NEW UNIVERSE. Instead of stealing Borrowing VICTOR DANDRIDGE JR idea for Samaritan and using that concept of the Samaritan to make Luke Cage cool actually bring theSamaritan to Marvel. Stop playing REMAKE characters for sales game. STOP IT MARVEL! DON’T MAKE HULK PINK FOR BREAST CANCER MONTH
Your issue Marvel is that your do not have the pulse of the fans and than when you get new talent you are tying their hands with cookie cutter characters instead of taking chances and risks on new title and characters. You hire new blood because they can create than shit LET THEM CREATE!
Marvel I love you. I say this as a fan who spends money on your product and who support isn’t going away but for GODSAKES take chances and me something NEW the better reflect the world we live in instead of comics you think will sell cause they are PC!
