The7Deadly  Questions

have been watching Collette and they are very impressed by her art!

What is so far your best work and why?13095834_1185380238152862_2978615398483985403_n

I don’t think I can say I have a best work. I’m really proud of a little indie comic called Badassical that I’m doing, but even so I’m growing as an artist along the way. Hopefully my best work is always going to be my next one.

What artists have inspired you ?

Luis Royo, Tetsuya Nomura, Tim Burton

12920306_1168869273137292_1907408438694086605_nDo you think the demand for artists will lessen as computers get more advanced??

Oh no, I think computers are an amazingly powerful tool and while they might change how we see art and how it’s made, the artist is still extremely important in the process.

When it comes to drawing women do and your creative team try to make the proportions more human and less plastic?

3376_1104631942894359_4532157677795108748_nNot sure about the term plastic. Some people have a style for drawing people, men and women, which is very different than either gender may appear in life, but it is identifiable as their work. I respect that. At the same time I personally have a line regarding how comfortable I feel sexualizing women. I don’t cross that line.

Has anyone one ever stolen your art and claimed it was there and if so how did you handle it?

13507282_1224114414279444_6835840133684029624_nI’ve had a few minor problems thus far, I have someone I have who takes care of those for me, so I’ll confess I don’t know what he does with it. 🙂

Do you think fan art is ok to sell at cons or does it cheapen the work of original concept artist??

This is a challenging question. 13055885_1184387258252160_2141637963547389381_oIt’s a balance between the need of the artist to sell work to support themselves and the need to respect intellectual property. As long as a character is treated respectfully, in the spirit it was created in, it bothers me less, though personally I’m trying to focus on licensed material I’m allowed to sell.

When do you think it is ok for an artist to expect an average page rate? What do they have to have accomplished first in your opinion

12799220_1149394845084735_3567647990574227950_nIt’s all about the quality of work and the professionalism of the person in question. A person needs both the skill (with comes from practice) and the work ethic to complete a job well, and on time.13076569_1188020317888854_7013208551061722041_n

13495077_1227928473898038_4700380136565903145_nWell done Collette Turner you have proven worthy of the fandom of The 7 deadly Questions, and as such they ask you to tell us whats next:

“Currently I’m working on a couple comics, both from independent publishers. Badassical is a book that something I’m working on with a couple friends. It’s being funded via crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The first issue raised 400% of what we’d aimed for which was cool. Besides that I’m honoured to be 13716006_1241503162540569_8598927070117149447_nworking on Southern Nightgown, a Rothic book, written by JP Roth and distributed with Diamond. I’m excited to be seeing it in local comic shops.

“As for Conventions I can be found at; Mostly I’ll be visiting a lot of Canadian shows, Fan Expo, Saskatoon/Edmonton Entertainment Expo, C4 (Winnipeg) and even a little one in Halifax (DCAF) 13781951_1245386382152247_6207805451105889017_nthrough the rest of the year. Will also be doing a few overseas, booked in for ‘Thought bubble’ in Leeds, UK and Vienna Comic Con.”
