The Creative Process and Scheduled Down Time

We will be offline on all sites not social media related From 1am-7am early Saturday.   Todays Creative Process will go over they Why

So you are starting out and you want to be able ,to keep up with your fans maybe sell things and you get what most start out with a FREE site. As traffic picks up you notice your site is crashing or non responsive.  So the more this happens the more you know it is time to grow.

So you want to pay for hosting.  There is Gator.Net GoDaddy and Bluehost to name a few.  We use Blue Host and the following is based on Blue Host but most operate the same way we like Blue host due to fair pricing and the high reviews on its 24/7 tech support which as many of you know we have worked closely with to resolve some serious issue in last few month.

So we Started out Just Hosting.  something like  7 a month on sale.  You will want Identity Guards (17 a yr)  so your address isn’t public and  useally a 25 package a year with add ons at lower levels that become free at higher level as you will see.  Not to get the 7 a month you have to commit to 36 months so yeah its gonna be a down payment of around

7×36=252+(17×3)+(25×3)=378 dollars

All the Following is unlimited

  • Websites
  • Website Space
  • bandwidth
  • Performance
  • Included Domains
  • Parked Domains
  • Sub Domains
  • Email Accounts
  • Email Storage

If you are on a budget this is a bit hard to swallow.  But remember this is a 3year investment that really is 123.3333 a month or 10.2775 a month.

So 10.28 a month to host a site not to bad.  Plus you get to host 300,000 files and the size is unlimited so less worries right.

But than there is load times as you get busy and you are on a shared IP and you are again worried about Missing out on views and sale so because of success you need to upgrade

What we did and it worked for a while was

Plus/Pro Hosting

  • Improved Performance
  • Fewer Users per Server
  • Bundled Hosting Add-ons included with Pro
  • Multiple Hosting Options
  • cPanel
  • SSH Server Access
  • 12, 24, and 36 month plans available

now this is an ADD-ON meaning you have to add this to the Cost of 378 but with Blue Host they do give you credit for what you hadn’t used and do work on a few credits.  But 7 extra a month for 36 still is about 252.  Ad depending when you add it on you might have to add a few month to contract from above.  So it does get expensive.

SAVERS tip wait for site sales to upgrade.  By doing this I was actual able to upgrade to this and have them owe me a 15 dollar credit.  I used that credit to out right Buy WrittenSins.com which was on sale for 1 dollar.   Sales are something you need to monitior

We than after all that still grew and needed more again and switched up to

VPS Hosting

  • High Performance
  • Isolated Virtual Server
  • Expandable Server Resources
  • 1-2 IPs
  • Multiple Hosting Options
  • cPanel/WHM
  • Root Server Access
  • 1, 3, 6, and 12 month plans available

Starting at $23.74/mo. ($15.00 off first month)

Now this does get credited from the last upgrade so if you wait for a sale like we did we paid a difference of 5 bucks a month.  NOW BLUEHOST credits I have heard other providers do not credit and worse if you upgrade early charge you to do so.  So ask questions and check up them before you use them.  I didn’t mention the bad ones on purpose just the 3 I was picking between.  Go daddy is said to have issues but I know a few who love it so be aware and do your research before committing to a provider

So again it was 5 months plus 2 months add on but the credits and difference in price at the time helped up to get a deal and only costed us 100 bucks.  Still thats 378+252+100=730 over 4.5 years as this has happen over a year and a half so it works out to still just 13.5185.  It is hard to swallow whole number always work it down to a monthly cost.

So in last few weeks while YEs we are doing a lot better in performance we noticed a slowness during busy time to days the cloud option opened up and we are going for it.

Making Cloud Effortless

The cloud can seem complex and intimidating. So we reinvented it.

Safer

On the cloud your website is more reliable. Your data is automatically mirrored across three distinct devices. Should hardware issues arise at one, our failover technology automatically designates one copy of your website to keep functioning while the other two copies work to rebuild.

Faster

No more long load times. Along with premium hardware and low-density servers, our cloud platform includes a varnish caching layer and global cdn to ensure your server resources are focused where they should be. Static website content is managed more efficiently so dynamic requests can be processed quicker than ever.

Simpler

Understand your site’s performance at a glance. Simple yet useful dashboards provide a quick view into usage trends, page download speed, uptime, global reach, and more. And with instant resource management, you’ll never need to worry about your site going down due to traffic spikes again.

Bigger

More web traffic should never slow you down. As your online presence grows, amp up your cloud usage with the click of a button. Either pick a more powerful plan, or add CPU and RAM a la carte as needed. All without having to worry about reboots, cryptic usage fees, or downtime.

So this will work for us and is our last step before having to deiced if this needs to be a business or not. Todays up grade just 60 bucks due to ale and credit form last upgrade just 30 days ago. That only 1.666 extra a month bring our hosting cost’s to 15 a month.  that an ok dollar amount for a hobby.  Infact that’s my wife’s cut off amount monthly.  She said it better cost less than 20 a month.  The next step is Doing Pro shit for real and this is where we will stop.  As honestly most of you will never need a dedicated server.   You wont have that much business all at once unless your a published or Studio and a group of you are working together.  I will do one of these next week and talk about the tools.  I want to see about the new tools I get next eek and tell what is worth it and whats not.  Plus I will go over WordPress sometime soon.

Any Questions I am here other wise Ill catch you in the Virtual Comic Con know ass the Written Sins Network
