Last Week the News Came out that “Former Vertigo Executive Editor Shelly Bond has been hired by IDW Publishing to launch a new creator-owned imprint titled Black Crown.”-Credit Newsarama The News is confirm a whisper of a rumor that IDW is in fact looking to branch out and Join the Indie Comic Movement.
While this could be really good new for Indie Creators we do warn that you should not expect this to help many Creators at 1st as Shelly Bond Clearly said in the interview she has a list of people she want to work with. So we expect the launch of this new Publisher to be begin as a friends helping friends environment. But in time the doors we are sure will open to submissions.
The bigger take away from this is that companies now see it, like we all see it, indie comics are the future. DC and Marvel know it but are fighting it so hard but the truth is you can not tell the same story for 90 years after all. There needs to be a influx of new Ideas. And While new Ideas arent always profitable upfront given time they could all rise to be the new Batman. Given the creation of the new publisher the time is clearly being given to cultivate the comics into brands that can than move onto the more major parent publisher.
