The Creative Process: Kickstarter Scam

So here is a heads up for everyone on kickstarter running a Campaign. People have learned to scam the system. So here is how it works they go around asking people to back their project and they will back yours. Usually backing from as little as 10 to as much as 200. Now the idea is you back them and they will back your campaign for the same amount. So when their kickstarter ends you money comes out when you’re ends they have a bank issue.

Now the simplest way to avoid this is not to trade backing. By all means support other projects but never agree to do it for support of your own project. This stops you being taken advantage of if you genuinely want to support it.

Also Check out what the person is backing.  If it seems they are backing a lot of long shot projects and only few projects they backed got funded you have your issue.

Also if their kickstarter ends before yours that is a bad sign.

Look for Sudden bursts of CASH at the Very end of campaigns with few backers if you doubt a project you backed. Sudden funding at the end does not often happen.  It can but its not common.  If they arent funded a week out and suddenly they get 3 grands to put them over and only 1 backer is added…. well you know what happened.

Know that once we got close to funded these offers stopped.  Could that be because some thoughts we would not take the offer cause we didn’t have too?  Maybe.  But the scams seem real and growing.

I also suggest looking at who the creator is and if they are a person of a business.  The more you find about them on social media the less likely its a scam.

On Fetish Babies Alyssa Made me aware of these offers.  We turned almost all of them down on the spot based on principle.  The 2  we did back were projects we flat out told the person we are backing them not trading and told them to keep their money if they did not believe in our project..  End of Day that’s the point, to support others.  Also people who wanted to back us blindly we worried about because our topic made a lot of people nervous to be part of to begin with. So at first we thought we where looking out for people who seemed desperate.

But the amount (10 people asking in a 7 day period) asking us to do this in first two weeks arose a suspicion in me.  How could this be so common.  If people had the money to fund their own projects what was the point.  Because this trading idea was also cheating the idea of Kickstarter.  It seemed very off. As I began goggle it I saw groups where people back each other stuff followed by the warnings that this is a scam.  I know sometimes you want to help people out and that’s a good thing but always check out projects. If you want to help and don’t like it throw it a dollar.  DO NOT TRADE on Principal. Make your way to goal thee right way.

Now as for if you see them as a potential fraud do what I do report them. I am Afraid Scams on Kickstarter is always gonna be there.  The common thread is always just like the Facebook Bot profiles there is little info.  Remember if they have made it to kickstarter they should have everything LINED UP and READY TO SHOW the world.  If they 1/2 fill out a profile and rewards are 3-5 its a scam RUN.
