Walls’ is a dark story, set in the Dark Ages. It is an examination of faith, the pursuit of existential knowledge, and the power of myth, but it is also an interested look into an unusual period of history.

The protagonist is a cloistered monk who has undertaken the ultimate ascetic vow and decided to live walled off from the world in a roadside hut. He looks inward to commune with God, but even in the most ultimate solitude, he finds he is not alone.

I intend for this project to be the first of several in this vein. Comic books are often beleaguered by the same types of stories, but this medium is extremely open to innovation, and there is no reason why a story told this way cannot have a more literary sensibility.

To that end, I hope to bring to you more unusual stories like this one, set all throughout time. I want to begin a comic brand that has more in common with ‘Weird Tales’ and ‘Tales from the Crypt’ than today’s Marvel and DC costumed cavalcade, and I will do that one story at a time.

I am so excited to show you this story, and I took great care in selecting my collaborator. Joshua Mitchell Taylor’s unique style will certainly make for a visual experience as unique as the story it tells.

The money we hope to raise for this comic simply covers the overhead of the publication. It pays for the art, the printing, and some of the shipping.

I am in this project for the joy of it. I have such tales to tell you.

To the first of many, my friends, raise your glasses high.

Risks and challenges

The risks in this project are minimal. I have set a reasonable deadline for completing this work, and I am pleased to have a responsive, prompt and very professional artist at work on this material. This is a project that can be relied on. When it is complete, I have a committed publisher with whom I’ve had the pleasure of association for several years.
Dark Elf Designs is a publishing brand that is situated locally, just outside the unusually beautiful and broken-hearted city of Flint, Michigan. It is my intention that all promotional materials be sourced locally, as well. There is a solid plan to put these issues on paper, and the costs are reflected in the needs of this kickstarter. From there, I will put them in as many hands as possible. The first run will be limited, but I am certainly willing to print it again.
In short, if you contribute, you will get what you paid for, and you will be pleased that you did. We all will.
