Scott Zambelli gives us a Story full of Passion and Belief.

About this project

This is my humble attempt to create a comprehensive and linear telling of the life of Christ from conception through crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension as told by the four Gospels of the New Testament. My goal is to faithfully adapt this series to incorporate all of the testimonies recorded in the Bible for each scene without altering any of the accounts.

As you may (or may not) know, is this is a huge challenge since there are some areas where it appears (on the surface) to have minor discrepancies that occur (which is typical considering these are four different accounts of events made by four different individuals as seen from each of their points of view). While there are minor differences in some details, all four Gospels are unified in the larger message and account. My challenge, is to do my best to figure out how each scene is staged so the panels of the comic book match all of the Gospel accounts in a way that doesn’t require over simplifying the Gospels to make the story work.

The first step in my process was to write out the complete story/script. To do this, I spent almost 2 years using a variety of Chronological Bibles, Concordances, and study guides to prayerfully encapsulate all four Gospels into one story line. Of course, there is no perfect way to accomplish this and ensure 100% accuracy to the historical account since even leading experts disagree on the order of some events and how they unfolded. What is important is that the message of the Bible itself is not changed.

Once I completed the 180 pages of story that I wrote, I was able to move forward onto the individual comic book issues.

This Kickstarter campaign is for the funding of the publication of the first issue of this series.  It is a 28 page book with the interior pages printed in black and white with a full color cover. As of the start of this campaign, the first 13 pages are 100% complete. Of the remaining 15 pages, I have completed the layouts, lettering, and rough pencils leaving only the final art to be completed.

My minimum funding goal is to raise $500 to publish 100 copies of “Immanuel”. However, my hopes are to raise much more so I can pay for a much lager print run to have these available for people to be exposed to a Biblical influence at the numerous Comic Cons I attend.

Risks and challenges

As of the start of this Kickstarter campaign, I estimate that I am about 70% complete with the 1st issue with about 2 months left until completion. There are 28 total pages in this issues and of those, 13 are 100% complete. For the remaining 15 pages, the layouts, text, and pencils are complete and the only thing left is the final art.

There is almost no risk in regards to completing the project. However, the area of greatest risk would be the end of June publishing date I have set as a goal. Since I am working on these pages between art projects for my clients, it is possible that I hit a busier than expected work load that pushes me further back.

With that said, I have successfully completed 2 previous Kickstarter campaigns on time and cushioned my timeline a little to factor in some delays.
